Bangladesh has some of the best scenic train rides in South Asia which travel through tea plantations, green hills, rivers and countryside. From Dhaka to Sylhet or the recently constructed route to Cox’s Bazar, these train trips are a mix of comfort and scenery making them a must visit for travelers and nature lovers.

Dhaka to Sylhet (Parabat Express)

This journey passes through verdant tea estates, hill rolls and thick woods. The Parabat Express starts from Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station at 6:58 AM and arrives at Sylhet by 1:00 PM, running six days a week except Tuesdays.

Dhaka to Khulna (Sundarban Express)

Linking the capital to the south western city of Khulna, the Sundarban Express has rural views of Bangladesh and travels through the Padma Bridge. The train covers around 412.4 km and runs six days a week. The Train arrives at 6:20 AM in Dhaka and reaches Khulna at 4:20 PM.

Dhaka to Chittagong (Subarna Express)

Subarna Express connects Dhaka with the seaport city of Chittagong through riverine country and busy towns. The Train arrives in Dhaka at 3:00 AM and reaches at 8:30 PM in Chittagong. The Subarna Express is very comfortable for the passengers to travel. 

Dhaka to Panchagarh (Drutojan Express)

This is the longest train journey in Bangladesh. Passengers can experience various scenic beauty such as the Bangabandhu Bridge across the Jamuna River. The journey also provides a glimpse of the northernmost areas of the country.

Dhaka to Rajshahi (Silk City Express)

This trip carries travelers along the center of Bangladesh’s silk producing area with sights of large silk farms and the Padma River.   The Train arrives at 4:40 AM and reaches Rajshahi at 9:05 PM. The Silk City Express is the preferred option for comfort and efficiency.

Dhaka to Rangpur (Rangpur Express)

The ride to the northwest is a picturesque journey through Bangladesh’s rural charm with expanses of paddy fields and villages typical of the country in the background. The Rangpur Express has a smooth journey with contemporary facilities.

Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar 

The 102 kilometer railway line from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar was built in December 2023 at a cost of Tk15,000 crore. Bangladesh Railway intends to operate at least four trains on the route. Once functional, it will be a big attraction for domestic as well as international tourists.
