Australia has made a big policy change and will begin processing visas for Bangladeshi citizens from its High Commission in Dhaka, where processing had been previously conducted in New Delhi.
The announcement about the decision was made through a phone call from Australia Home Minister Tony Burke to Home Adviser of Bangladesh Lt Gen (Retd), Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Thursday. After that, the home adviser told the council of advisers that the new rule came into effect immediately, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.

This development follows the official suggestion from the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during the trip of Australian Home Minister Burke to Bangladesh in October last year to ask for the policy change. It is likely to assist in the processing time of visa applications from Bangladesh and enable greater access.
From now on, the Australia High Commission in Dhaka will process visa application requirements, thus eliminating the need for Bangladeshi applicants to use the New Delhi office. The move signifies improved bilateral relations and is expected to facilitate travel for those wanting to visit Australia.
