Bangladesh is going to celebrate Independence Day on March 26 with enthusiasm across the nation. National programmes have been organized to respectfully and solemnize the day in honour of the country’s war heroes.
The celebrations will begin with a 31-gun salute at dawn nationwide, including the capital. President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will lay floral wreaths on the National Memorial in Savar in honor of the martyrs. Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam, freedom fighters, political leaders, diplomats and representatives of different organizations will also offer their respects.
Floral wreaths will be laid on martyrs’ memorials at district and upazila levels. The national flag will be raised at government and private buildings across the country at dawn. Student parades, assemblies and recitation of the national anthem will be organized at various levels of administration.
Sports events such as football, T20 cricket and kabaddi will be held at district and upazila levels. Reception ceremonies will be arranged for freedom fighters and martyrs’ families.
Bangladesh Postal Department will release commemorative stamps and special prayers will be held for the progress and prosperity of the country. Hospital patients, prisoners, orphans and care homes will have better meals. Museums and parks will be open to the public free of cost.
The Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard will make their ships available for public visits at strategic ports and terminals. The same celebrations will be observed at Bangladesh missions overseas, emphasizing the importance of the day.
March 26 is a national holiday, commemorating a historic event in Bangladesh’s past.
