The government said it would allocate Tk 525.46 crore as settlement of the dues of Beximco workers and officials of 14 Beximco units that were closed down. The Labour and Employment Adviser, Shakhawat Hossain, said 14 affected mills employed 31,669 workers and 1,565 officials.
Of this amount, Tk 325.46 crore will be made available by the finance division and Tk 200 crore will be loaned from the labour ministry’s central fund to Beximco Group. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Ministry of Shipping in Dhaka.

The payments to the affected workers will start on March 9th. This initiative by the government is to support those workers who are facing the time and heart-wrenching situation after closure.
