The government has made it clear that under the absence of an Independence Day parade in Dhaka on March 26th, the celebration goes on in other parts of Bangladesh. The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing did confirm that ongoing renovation work has made hosting the parade in the capital impossible similar to previous years. So, Dhaka has been excluded from this year’s celebrations.
But the spirit of Independence Day has got an assurance from the interim government. Other ceremonies in the 63 districts include official parades and gatherings for the brave freedom fighters will take place as per the schedule. Deputy commissioners have been given orders to oversee the preparations.
Senior Secretary Nasimul Ghani in the Home Ministry earlier expressed that the decision stemmed from many considerations like the ongoing month of Ramzan and the approaching Eid holidays. He also added that currently, Bangladesh is in a ‘war-like situation’ where massive preparations for celebration are not considered a high priority.
While Dhaka may not witness its traditional parade, the nationwide celebrations will uphold the significance of March 26th paying tribute to Bangladesh’s independence and its lost heroes for the independence.
