14 April 2025, is observed as the Bengali New Year in Bangladesh and it is also named as ‘Pohela Boishakh’. So, look into some of the striking events that took place across the streets this monday. The traditional musical performance by Chhayanat at Ramna Batamul, an iconic procession of Mangal Shobhajatra which is organized by University of Dhaka. Well, this procession is globally acclaimed and recognised by UNESCO.

The back to back cultural events made the streets masks of tigers, birds, and symbolic figures which showcased peace, resilience and the fight against evil. Women were looking gorgeous with their traditional attire in red and white, the families have gathered over panta bhat and hilsa fry, enjoying their taste provoking age-old recipes. And the streets were buzzing with shoppers buying handicrafts, toys and sweets & traditional sports too.
This Bengali New Year is more than just a celebration and festival, it is a symbol of their culture and their identity which is to be carried over to their next generation.
