BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) is a regional cooperative initiative taken to promote the economic partnership and connectivity among the Asian countries peacefully. The 2025 summit is taking place in Bangkok from 2-4 April 2025 and the seven key members of this organisation including India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan, Thailand, Nepal and Sri Lanka have participated.
This summit is expected to be a crucial one due to the much anticipated diplomatic meeting of India and Bangladesh might take place before the end. Both the nations have been sharing the rifts and heated debates for the past few months. It led to a small fissure in the bilateral relationship of these two countries. So, the higher officials of Bangladesh including Chief Adviser’s High Representative on Rohingya & other priorities, Khalilur Rahmans stated,
“Bangladesh is going to be the next chair of BIMSTEC. Therefore, the heads of the member states will take this chance to meet the Chief Adviser and discuss the future curse of BIMSTEC. So, we can expect that there will also be a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi”
This meeting seems to takes place officially on 4 April 2025 by the assuring statement by Foreign Secretary Md.Jasim Uddin.
