The world mourns for the courteous and polite man Pope Francis who took his last breath on 21 April 2025. Following his death, Cardinal Kevi Farrell became the acting head of the Vatican. He needs to oversee the day-to-day affairs of both Vatican during the interregnum and as Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church. As per the given information from the Vatican, Farrell is assigned to carry out the role of ensuring the Pope’s death, safeguarding the papal seal, ring and to prepare for the upcoming conclave to elect the new pope.
Who is Cardinal Kevin Farrell?
Cardinal Kevin was born in Dublin in 1947 and his life towards the holy path began when he joined the Legionaries of Christ in 1966. He was then ordained as a priest in 1978, following that he became Bishop of Dallas. His duty continued to grow and he was appointed as the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, family and life, in later 2016. He was elevated as Cardinal the very same year by Pope Francis and in the year 2019, Pope named him as Camerlengo. Camerlengo will be given power to manage the daily affairs of the Vatican during the Sede Vacante (period between two papacies) and he certifies the pope’s death & prepares for the conclave to select the new pope.
Though Cardinal Farrell encountered some controversies during the past, he is now holding one of the most crucial responsibilities in the Catholic Church and he is praised for his reformist vision blended with administrative skills.
