Netflix’s recent crime drama Adolescence has quickly taken the streaming world by storm. In just 17 days since its launch, the four part miniseries has received a staggering 96.7 million views and secured 9th place among all Netflix English language series. This recognition has pushed Stranger Things Season 3 down to 10th place and knocked Bridgerton Season 2 completely off the list.
Adolescence was created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham which follows the harrowing tale of 13 year old boy Jamie Miller who was accused of killing a classmate. It quickly gained momentum with its shocking narrative and gripping performances which became a global sensation and entered the Top 10 in all 93 countries where Netflix measures rankings.
Featuring Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty and Faye Marsay, Adolescence has connected with audiences at a deep emotional level. The series examines Jamie’s emotional turmoil and his family’s struggle throughout his trial. Directed by Philip Barantini, Adolescence covers themes of guilt, family obligation and societal judgment.

Even British Prime Minister Keir Starmer accepted the emotional burden of the series, announcing that he would provide funding to allow it to be made available for UK secondary schools. It will be streamed through Into Film+ alongside teaching resources from the charity Tender.
As a father, watching Adolescence with my teenage son and daughter hit home hard.

We all need to be having these conversations more.
I've backed Netflix's plan to show the series for free in schools across the country, so as many young people as possible can see it.
With still more than two months left to ascend Netflix’s all time charts, Adolescence has already established itself as one of the biggest success stories in streaming history.
