Five Women and Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team Honoured with ‘Indomitable Women’s Award 2025’ on International Women’s Day

Five outstanding women and the Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket Team were honored with the illustrious ‘Indomitable Women’s Award 2025’ on International Women’s Day for their outstanding work in different areas. The awards were given out at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in a ceremony attended by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus who presented the awards to the recipients.

The occasion was presided over by Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid, featuring members of the Council of Advisers, diplomats, women leaders and top government officials. Sharifa Sultana, Halima Begum, Marina Besra, Lipi Begum and Muhin Mohona were some of the women who were awarded for their great achievements.

Amongst these renowned personalities, the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team was also awarded for their groundbreaking contribution to sport. There were speeches by high profile speakers such as UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis, Professor Gitiara Nasreen from Dhaka University and Mamtaj Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

In his International Women’s Day message, Yunus noted the tremendous  number of women that Bangladesh has made. He pointed out that the present interim government is determined to empower women to play a crucial role in the progress of the country. 

Yunus also recognized the efforts of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to enhance the role of women in different fields including economic growth. Efforts like shelter homes, Women’s Support Centers that offer legal assistance, housing for working women and microcredit schemes play a great role towards women’s empowerment and financial stability.

The ceremony was followed by a screening of a documentary, as well as an emotional cultural event that featured the strong July uprising. The celebration emphasized the key roles played by women throughout Bangladesh and the world and their lasting influence on society.
