Bangladesh’s inflation has remained on a downward trend continuously further easing to 9.32% in February 2025 from 9.94% in January based on data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). This was mainly attributed to a reduction in food inflation.
Food inflation declined sharply to 9.24% in February from 10.72% in January. But non-food inflation increased slightly to 9.38% in February up from 9.32% in January.
Both rural and urban regions recorded a fall in inflation. For rural regions, inflation fell to 9.51% during February from 10.18% in January with the food inflation decreasing to 9.15%. Non-food inflation in rural areas increased marginally to 9.85%. For urban areas, inflation was eased to 9.34% from 9.89% with the food inflation coming down to 9.47%.
The inflation rate from the previous twelve months from March 2024 to February 2025 was at 10.30% compared to 9.66% in previous year. The wage rate index also softened to 8.12% from 8.16% in January.
This improvement in non food inflation brings good news to the nation’s economy although there are issues still to be addressed.
