In the last couple of months, the country has seen over 2,900 sporting and cultural events with about 855 of these being women’s football matches reaching out to far-flung areas of the country from villages to cities. With this, the initiative takes another step towards deepening the world of sport and cultural engagement at all levels of society.
Pictures and news were shared in a facebook post by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki who is Bangladesh’s Cultural Affairs Adviser. He also stated, “Onwards and upwards, Bangladesh!”
There were a total of 174 events during this time that the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy put together in a post-revolutionary world of culture. This larger project works to provide a venue for talents and to showcase them nationwide.

Doing something for 855 matches on women’s football indicates a heightened empowerment for women’s sports with a challenge to existing norms and a building block of equality.
Farooki also stated in the post that “Remember this count includes the events organized by Shilpakala only and doesn’t include HUNDREDS of other cultural events, film festivals, theater shows and many other art events organized by different cultural organizations, universities, colleges and many other non government entities.
