Bangladesh has advanced in the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2025 to 35th place with a score of 3.03 compared to the 32nd position last year. The Institute for Economics and Peace(IEP), a Sydney-based think tank released this report about terrorism trends across 163 countries based on 2024 Data.

Bangladesh secured lower impact from terrorism compared to neighbouring country India which is in 14th place with 6.4 points and Pakistan in 2nd with 8.3 points in the South Asian region. Afghanistan, the only country from South Asia in the first 10 of the ranking, is in the 9th position with 7.2 points while Myanmar is one step behind in 11th with 6.9 points.

Two other South Asian countries have been found to be in zero impact zone which puts them into the lowest risk level which is Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
Burkina Faso remains the most affected by terrorism with 8.5 in the GTI followed by Pakistan and Syria. The GTI has pointed out that the Sahel path is still the deadliest hotspot in Africa with over 50% contribution to global deaths from terrorism in 2024.
