A comfortable win for Aston Villa over Cardiff City, 2-0 with two goals from Marco Asensio. The victory took Villa back to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2014-15.
From the start, Villa threatened Cardiff with the class of goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, who kept the game scoreless with awesome saves. Villa, despite having been the better team, failed to break down the Cardiff defence in the first half, as Marcus Rashford and Leon Bailey both would be stopped by Horvath.
In the second half, Villa also got the breakthrough in the 68th minute. Rashford had a fine cross for Asensio, who put the ball into the net to put Villa ahead. Only ten minutes after that, Asensio scored again, as Bailey supplied him with a cross and the player curled the ball in the bottom corner for a hard-earned second goal.
